I don't know where you stand on global warming. I know that good people disagree. I'm not a scientist but like Bob Dylan sang, "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows" and Baby Its Cold Outside. This week it was reported that Florida is the only state that doesn't have some snow cover. Yes, that includes Hawaii. Several years ago, before I launched iBuyUSMade.com, I became keenly aware of the challenges we face in buying American when I set out to purchase a new winter coat. I knew I wanted a coat Made in the USA. I just didn't realize how much of a challenge I faced finding one.
My trek to to find a US Made winter coat grew to near epic proportions. Finding the "Holy Grail" might have proven easier. I was "red, white, and blue" alright. But for all the wrong reasons -- I was freezing to death! I did not find a coat made in the USA, and later I found that only 5% of our clothing in the USA is made in this country.
That experience led to me creating this website, and I am pleased to report that if you share my love of patriotism and warmth you have come to the right place.
I am pleased to share that we have just added an American made company that makes winter coats that you could wear to the North Pole. The way this winter is going you just might be able to grab a sled and the family hound and make that trip! Wintergreen Northern Wear are outdoor enthusiasts who make winter clothing of the highest quality for men, women, children, and even dogs. If you are tired of freezing your tukhus and need a serious winter garment they are definitely a great choice. They are so serious about winter wear that they have worn their clothing in expeditions to some of the coldest places on earth, including the North Pole.
Another great American made company that is serious about winter wear is Wickers. They have a broad range of clothing, and a large selection of undergarments and specialty clothing and accessories for managing the elements. This includes sleepwear as well.
Last but not least, there is nothing worse than cold feet on a winter day. Bamboosa offers Made in the USA socks that are very reasonably priced and feature the natural climate control features of clothing made with bamboo. It sounds crazy to make clothes with bamboo, but the reality is that bamboo manufactured into clothing results in garments that are extremely soft, durable, and better than cotton for temperature regulation.
If you have additional suggestions for great American made companies with winter clothing I would love to hear from you. If you are a member of iBuyUSMade please also feel free to comment below.
